We're Here, and a Hobbit review

11:00 PM Friday night...

We are parked across from our daughter's home in San Diego and just spending an hour or so reading before turning in for the night.

Our mission of having new Koni shocks installed was accomplished without hassle.  Our opinion of the results is still unresolved.  It seems to me that perhaps the ride on smoother highway surfaces is a bit nicer, but the rough surfaces of some of the Interstate highways cannot be "made better."  Bad road is bad road.  We are a bit disappointed.

Although we were welcomed by our grandsons when we arrived, they and their parents had other plans for the evening.  They were going to an "end of the world" party being hosted by one of the boys' friend's parents.

We decided to go to a movie.  We saw the Hobbit and enjoyed it very much.  Craig wanted to see it in 3D, but I have gotten dizzy when I go to 3D's and wanted to see it in a regular 2D format.  I was glad we did because the action was very intense and I'm pretty sure I would not have done well with the 3D format.

Peter Jackson did a wonderful job with the material from the book. It was visually rich in detail.  There was a lot of violence, but no guns!  I think the PG13 is just about right.  Kids younger than that might be overwhelmed and have nightmares because the monsters were so real and never completely vanquished.

The next few days will be family time.  We will eat, drink, and play games. Well, I'll try not to overdo the first two.

Hope you all enjoy this time as well, wherever you are.

Peace on Earth may be too much to expect, but not too much to wish for.

  4. There were definately times with the 3d imax that I had to close my eyes! Looking down into some of the gorges had my head spinning.

Have a great time with your family. Isn't it fun to have your own accommodations :-)

  5. Glad you made it safely. I agree, I haven't seen any 3D films, but I'm sure it would make me dizzy.

  6. Thank you for the review of "The Hobbit." I really want to see it, but some of the reviews have not been kind. But then, I don't always believe the reviewers anyway. I want to see it in 3-D!

  8. Merry Christmas to you and Craig too! And the rest of your family also. Glad you are off for a trip and hope you have the very best time!

Tires might make a difference too on your ride. We just got new tires on our jeep and it's a great change. Before our trip for the summer we got new rear tires on the MH, having gotten new front ones last year. We could both tell a bit of a difference. And maybe time will tell on the shocks. Once you go full time and can take your time, you might try two lane roads. We prefer them because of less traffic and usually find them to be in better condition.

    Have fun!

  11. Merry Christmas Merikay! Enjoy that time with your family and don't worry about the eating part. The holiday goes way too fast to worry about that.

  12. Merry Christmas Merikay and Craig. May you enjoy the day filled with joy, love and laughter. Sunshine would be nice, too since it's raining here, and I'd like to think of you in nice warm sunshine with blue skies!

  13. A little late to the party but trust you are having a lovely family Christmas Day.

I am recovering from too much sugar yesterday but now that I am eating better it doesn't take long to get rid of the bloating and cravings again.

Have a great time with family, a wonderful trip and a Very Happy new Year.

    Blessings

  14. Hubby and son are at The Hobbit right now! I think they're going for the IMAX 3-D (because our boy didn't want to see the 48 frames per second--doesn't like how it looks). I begged off, and I'll probably regret it. I wish you'd gotten more of what you were hoping for with your shocks--someday they'll make true "air ride" shocks, and it'll be heavenly!

I hope you had a fabulous, wonderful holiday!

  15. I Had new shocks put on my RV last spring. Yes, smooth roads were way smoother, but rough roads were still rough.
