Weight Loss

I know January and February are months that many of us set our minds on weight loss and other self improvement regimes. Last year, about this time, I did. My goal was to lose 45 pounds and get to a BMI of less than 25.

Most of my followers have been with me long enough to know that I reached that goal last September. By early November I had dropped a few more pounds. Then came the hard months:  Thanksgiving,  Christmas, and a month long RV trip.  I tried very hard to enjoy good things in moderation.

I took the scale along on our trip and weighed in every day.  I seem to have about a three pound variation from day to day. If I am at the top of that three pound range, I eat less and am very careful until I go back down. If I weigh in at the bottom, I relax and might enjoy a small treat, or not.

I'm currently pleased with the fact that I did not gain weight over the holidays, or at least I did not keep it on. I have maintained a  weight loss of 53 pounds and a BMI of 23.6.

I might want to do another push later this spring and try to drop a few more pounds, but if I don't thats OK too. I love my new body!

But I find it is almost as hard to keep the pounds off as it was to lose them.  Committing to post about it occasionally gives me just a little more motivation to do so.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement you all have given me this year.

I am learning to eat to live, not live to eat.

  1. Merikay, you are doing great. I find that keeping it off is very difficult and for me I have to keep moving. I can eat good and still gain if I am not moving enough.

  2. Congratulations, Merikay! It is not easy to maintain so that is great that you have kept it off. I am still working to lose weight as well, almost to 25 pounds now. I know that I will always have to be be vigilant, even after I reach my goal- still watching what I eat and keeping track of calories. The end result is worth it though!!

  3. I think you look fabulous and it has been great to read about all the hiking. I'm sure it has been more enjoyable at your current weight.

I first got involved in Blogging because I was looking for weight loss support. Now I read that most people do work equally hard at keeping those lost pounds off. I believe there might even be a scientific explanation. But then I have slim friends who stay slim and never became fat because they are aware of what they eat and eat sensibly.

Congratulations on your success in losing weight and maintaining the loss.

    Blessings

  4. Congratulations! You are an inspiration!

The RV lifestyle can easily become a pound-producing way to live. Thank you for reminding us how important it is to make healthy choices and keep moving!

    Brava!

  5. That is wonderful Merikay, and you are right it is as hard to keep it off. I lost a lot of wt then I feel and broke my shoulder, then I put 22lbs back on.
    Very frustrating. Congratulations.

  6. You are doing fantastic. I wish I had your willpower. I've been a career dieter, which is not good. Sometimes I just don't care, I love to eat :)

  7. You're doing great and you look great. We aren't doing so well. When we first went vegan pounds started falling off, but lately we have hit a plateau. Holidays and traveling are always challenging.

  8. Yours sounds like a success story for sure. I like knowing how other folks do it. I've found that exercise is the key for me... but admit that most days I don't get in my 10,000 steps.

  9. I still live to eat, and mentally, that's the hardest part to change about myself. I exercise a LOT, but still eat wrong, so have a long way to go....Your efforts encourage me to try harder. Congratulations to you for getting where you want to be! You sure look terrific!

  11. Well done! Maintaining is hard - I know from experience :-( I'm pretty sure I'm gaining here in NZ - too much restaurant eating, and the excellent chocolate. It would help if I had a scale though. And maybe all the hills will have helped!
