The problem described below was solved. It seemed to require two people to push down on either side at the same time and then the strut released and glided closed. There was no "release."
Thank you to those who gave helpful suggestions. It made me less afraid of breaking something by forcing it down!
Before the above edit:
This may be a strange short blog, but I need some help from the other Class A owners.
I took off the mattress and raised the platform beneath it. Just to look and carefully check it out. I was told to check for any signs of mold or mildew. There were none, it is pristien. Bu now the things that hold the platform up are locked in some way and I can't figure out how to release them.
I called the service manager at LA MESA and he said there was a "release" often red. I can't for the life of me find it.
Does anyone know how to get them back down?
Craig may be able to figure it out!
This is not ours, but they look exactly like this.
I just push down on the mattress to close it. Never heard of a red switch...sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteOur mattress doesn't go up, so I can't help, but I hope you figure it out!! I know how frustrating it is trying to solve newbie problems.
ReplyDeleteWe just pushed down on ours. No switch. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteour too just pushes back down... it requires a very firm push to get it back down
ReplyDeleteOurs just pushes back down, and did on the other motor home the same way.
ReplyDeleteThey are hydrolic lifts. Yours look to be the same. Some are harder to push than others. In our new Motor home it takes two men and a boy to get the bed back down. They are very firm. I think they might be new. Al said to try some WD 40 on them.

ReplyDeleteOurs just pushes down as well. Might have to give it a 'Humpf' and watch your fingers....
ReplyDeleteRon suggested seeing if you can raise it a little bit and then it should release. Kinda like our table does. We have to raise it to lower it.
ReplyDeleteI am with Ali, just raise it a bit more, then push down and it goes down
ReplyDeleteOurs is the same way -- you just push it down.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have such a thing. But, you can always unscrew the hinges and let the thing fall....just thinkin'.
ReplyDeletecan't help you..just hope you get it fixed soon!!..
ReplyDeleteThis $%@#! Blogger hasn't been bringing up your posts and I missed all the fun! I just went back to where I left off a bunch of posts ago, so I'm caught up and very excited for you! I remember the first night I slept in The Palms, and it felt so good, it was finally mine and so much fun to wake up there. You must be so excited - I'm looking forward to your maiden voyage. Craig has really come around, hasn't he? That's so cool. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you got them down. Ours are very firm too, which I guess is good.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't say much for the service department does it, since there was no red release?
Same suggestions here - can't wait to hear your solution!
ReplyDeleteI suspect that with the mattress removed it takes more of an effort to push the platform down. If I have something heavy sitting on the end of our bed it will sometimes tend to want to lower the platform after I've raised it. Once the item is removed the platform stays open. The struts may be pressurized with the weight of the mattress in mind. CC
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interesting blog.
