Corelle, Pyrex, Corning ware, Outlet

I have always liked Corelle dishes much better than stoneware.  I have used them for years.  I like them because they are lighter, take up less room in the cabinets and dishwasher, and usually don't break if dropped.   I have had a few shatter if they hit wrong, but compared to other dishes they last much longer.

I've also heard that a lot of people use them in their RVs for the same reasons.

For the upcoming Thanksgiving meal I will be using my fancy china, but for the other meals of the weekend the Corelle will do nicely.

However I have noticed the inside of my mugs have become quite discolored over the years.  A few have permanent finger prints on the sides from where I held them with resin on my hands in the studio.  Yuck! Time to trash them.

I took a trip over to the Corning Ware Outlet store this afternoon to get some new mugs.

I love to browse.  I saw a number of things I might like to have in an RV someday.  Didn't buy anything!  Self control.

But a stop at the Outlet will be a fun part of the preparation someday.

Cold and rainy here last night!  Down to 37 degrees when I got up at 3 am.

  1. Guess we have another thing in common! Over the years we had broke a few Corelle cups and a couple of cereal bowls (brought them in 1988!), but now I can't find the matching design (white, plain) to replace them. Few of our white cups also have some stubborn stain at the bottom of the inside, I even tried bleach them out but to no avail.

  2. I don't know much about dishes except that I like good coffee mugs! A good mug always seems to make the coffee taste just a little better!

  3. I have to admit I use a lot of paper plates and bowls. I have nice dinnerware, but since I live alone, it's easier just to toss them when I'm done eating. I'll probably do the same thing when full-timing. Save on water!

  5. I have four corelle plates in the MH. My challenge has been finding the perfect cereal bowl. I'm still on that quest. :)

  6. I can appreciate why you would prefer Corelle for most of your dishes in the RV and even now -- but I recall that you have a couple of my stoneware mugs and I hope that you are able to take them with you!

  7. My mom bought me Corelle when I graduated college. They were the same pattern as hers, and frankly, I was sick of them! I wanted something more modern, more "me".

The darn things would never break or chip, so I was stuck with them for years until I finally gave up waiting for an excuse to get rid of them and just donated the whole complete set!

Now that I have kids emptying the dishwasher for me, I kind of miss the durability and lightness of these. If I was willing to replace a whole set again, I could probably get rid of all the plastic plates we keep for youngest child. Hmmm, old fashioned (Aka classic) Corelle designs sure beat the heck out of spiderman and star wars plastic!
