Senior Discounts

I want my blog to be about positive things.  Things I want to remember, or things I feel might be of benefit to others. In the long run I do not want to remember or look back on these stressful days of fixing up the house and saying goodbye to treasured possessions  Posts about Craig fixing this or my painting that are of no real value or interest, so I have decided to not write them any more.

So, until we are actually traveling  or if I think I have a good food or craft idea to share, my entries may be more limited.

With that in mind, I thought I'd pass on this list of senior discounts I found on the Escapee's Forum.

We don't eat out very often, and when we do it is rarely at fast food places, but when in a rush or on the road we have.  I'm going to make it a habit to ASK if there is a senior discount.

Seems like we have been to many of these places and have not seen any sign of them.

One thing I have noticed is that many of the discounts listed below are for certain times of the day or certain days of the week or month.  But time is what we have the most of.

I'd be interested in learning about any other discounts you may know about.  They may be anywhere in the country, because who knows where we will travel once the house is sold!

  1. Fixing this and that ARE positive things! These transition months of moving from stix to wheels are worth remembering - you have both accomplished so much - celebrate it! In 5 years from now when you are sitting back reminiscing you'll wonder what was the big deal - to be able to go back and read just what you did to get to where you are is a treasure. And reason to give yourselves a big pat on the back :-) Yes there were sad and frustrating times, but you got through them and made it to your goal.

Who knew about all the discounts... I wonder how they match up to what is available in Canada? I'll have to check it out as Carm turns 60 next March. That's gotta be good for something :-)

  2. Sweet - can't wait till I'm that old. At that point though, the age will probably be changed to 68 or something.

  3. Thanks for sharing the list. I forget to ask most of the time. I think its my mind in denial that I'm old enough.

  4. I didn't know about most of these, especially the grocery stores. I wonder how Dunkin Donuts can give away the free coffee to those that are 55+. In and around Chicago, many 55+ are daily commuters and that would be a great deal. Laura has a point about writing notes about the transition, sounds like you are frustrated and need to go on another trip, LOL. :) hope things get moving along for you.

  5. I for one enjoy hearing about your accomplishments on getting your house ready to sell. I'm always amazed at the energy you guys have.

I'm with Janie. I forget to ask for discounts. I just don't feel old enough to think of myself as falling into the senior category :)

  6. The AARP site has lots of discounts listed for members and I get an email every time they add something new. Many places require that you ask for the discount so you can't be shy!! I figure if they're offering, I'll take them up on it.

I agree with what Laura said and I have enjoyed watching your progress on your transition. You and Craig are hard workers and very inspirational.

  7. I know I like hearing about your preperation times. So many of us have been through it, the ups and the downs. When the time is right it will all come together for you. Thanks for the list, I'm also one who forgets to ask. Becki

  8. I agree with everyone...don't stop writing about your house projects...I give you lots of credit for how far you have come! I'm going to start asking for the discount...if nothing else it will pay for the tax!

  9. The Goodwill and Savers in Las Cruces give a 30% discount every Wednesday - I just got back with my "goodies." :-)

  10. I'm with the others. I also enjoy reading about your house preparations. Many of us have. Been in your shoes and others hope to be doing what you're now doing.

I'm learning to ask for discounts. A perk for getting older.

  11. Kind of a coincidence... we stopped in at the AT&T store in McAllen today... want to change our telephone plan... asked about the senior discount. That's only good for a single plan. Family plans don't matter. We pay around $80 a month for our plan... WAY too much for our use, but looks like that's the only way AT&T will go. Guess we're looking for a different phone server at this time.

  12. We try to remember senior discounts. I qualify for the over 55, George over 62. We found out that a lot of grocery stores have 10% on Tuesdays, usually the first Tuesday of every month. George isn't shy about asking for any discounts!
Even if you don't want to write about the process of getting ready to sell, keep us all informed of the progress once in awhile! We like seeing you check things off your list ;)

  13. John and I enjoy going back and reading about our trials and tribulations of getting our house ready to go on the market. It is our history, as your blog is your history. We will miss keeping up with your progress.

  14. I for one have learned a lot about getting ready to RV fulltime from your trials and tribulations in getting the house ready to sell. Many things I have never thought of. Please don't stop.

  15. Many of these are repeats, but I think there are some new ones, too!
