A New Blog

Years ago I helped my mother write a book of stories about herself.  I had given her a copy of a book called "To My Children's Children" that was full of questions that helped her remember her life.  She wrote long rambling letters, and I entered them on the computer, editing,  combining, and organizing them without loosing her voice.
I had family pictures scanned and added numerous "quick pick" illustrations, and we ended up with a quite nice book.  I had hard bound copies made for all of my siblings and their kids.  I think Mom was very proud and happy with it.

Last Mother's Day my daughter gave me a similar book.

So, I have decided to use blogger to start writing  some of my stories.
I Think it's going to be a long winter, so with laptop and a warm fire I'm starting
Merikay Remembers.

Of course I'll keep up my dream here, but remembering will be fun.

  2. Happy Birthday!!!! :)
I am behind on my blog reading, and I missed your birthday, so I get to wish you ALL GOOD THINGS today instead.

I gave my mom one of those books, too. A couple of years later I hadn't gotten it back and asked her about it. She didn't remember getting it. :(

They are such a wonderful idea and I'm glad you made a book of your mom's, and it must be such fun to have your kids give you a memory book, too. It will be such a good legacy for them.

  3. Happy Birthday! I am late too, been traveling so much we haven't been online as often. Blogging your stories is a good idea! The book sounds like it was an excellent idea. I have seen similar things over the years and always admired the creative folks who put that time into making them. Very cool thing to do for family!

  4. I love the posts on your other blog. No comments over there, eh? Maybe the idea is to keep the stories from a consistent perspective. Congratulations on getting started, though!
